The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a union of seven sovereign sheikdoms situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. Despite the fact that four-fifths of its land area is arid desert, the UAE is a country of contrasting landscapes, from awe-inspiring dunes to rich oases, precipitous rocky mountains to fertile plains. The UAE has 734 kilometres of coasline, 644 kilometres along the Arabian Gulf and 90 kilometres bordering the Gulf of Oman. Along the Arabian Gulf coast are offshore islands, coral reefs and slat marshes, whilst stretehes of plain and barren desert characterise the inland region.
The UAE is a contradictory place where time-honoured Bedouin lifestyle meets Western consumerism. But rather than clashing, these different influences have produced a unique 21st-century nation that combines the cultures of conservative Islam and the liberal West in one package.
One of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations, the UAE has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable holiday, sun, sand, sea, sports, unbeatable shopping, top-class hotels and restaurants, an intriguing traditional culture, and a safe and welcoming environment
